MAYLA Rules and Regulations for Boys and Girls Highs School and Youth Lacrosse
Rules are written by the US Lacrosse Youth Council as exceptions to the National Federation of State High School (NFHS) Boys' Lacrosse Rules. Youth Rules are printed in the back of the NFHS Boys Lacrosse Rules Book.

Age & Eligibility Guidelines
Revision to US Lacrosse Youth Council Boys rule
Senior Division: 7/8th grade.
Junior Division: 5/6th grade.
Bantam Division: 3rd/4th grade.
Rule 1 - The Game, Field and Equipment
The Game - Section 1 - Bantam Division Only
Teams will play 8 v 8 (2 attack, 2 defense, 3 midfield, and 1 goalie). If the referees are ready to start the game, and one team has less than 8 players, that team must forfeit the game. It is recommended that the other team lend players, and play a refereed scrimmage.
Field - Section 2 - Bantam Division Only

Revision to US Lacrosse Youth Council Boys rule
The field will be 50 yards by 35 yards minimum. The middle third of a standard lacrosse field (40x60yards) is recommended. No boxes, only a half line and creases. Flat cones can be used for the creases if needed. On face-off's attack men and defensemen will line up on GLE. Wing Midfielders will start with one foot touching the sideline.
Goals and Goal Lines - Section 3 Art. 2

Rage Cage and/or practice goals may be used for games.
Player Equipment - Section 6 & 9 - Bantam Division Only

Revision to US Lacrosse Youth Council Boys rule
Shin guards are STRONGLY recommended for goalies at the Bantam division.
Player Equipment - Section 6 & 9 - Bantam Division Only (continued)
The length of the crosse may be 37 to 42 inches for offensive and defensive players at the Bantam division.
Player Equipment - Section 9 Art. 1 (a)
Revision to National Federation of State High School Boys rule
All players of a team DO NOT need to wear helmets of the same color or colors.
Player Equipment - Section 9 Art. 1 (g.-3)
Revision to National Federation of State High School Boys rule
Jersey numbers should be at least 8 inches tall on the front and 10 inches tall on the back.
Rule 3 - Time Factors
Length of Game - Section 3 - Senior, Junior, and Bantam Division

There would be no overtime period.
Rule 4 - Play of the Game
Advancing the Ball - Section 14 & 15
Defensive 20-second count will be enforced at the Senior and Junior Divisions.
Rule 5 - Personal and Ejection Fouls
Body Checking - Section 3
Revision to US Lacrosse Youth Council Boys rule
Body checking is NOT permitted at the Junior or Bantam Divisions.
[ There is only light body contact. No full out body checking. Players can bump during ground balls and when playing defense on the ball. ]
